ChesCo, West Chester launch walking route

On Friday morning, Oct. 12, the Chester County Commissioners, and representatives from the Chester County Health Department and West Chester Borough will launch a new walking route located in the center of West Chester. This route joins four others already established in the City of Coatesville, Kennett Square and Phoenixville.

The launch event is just one of many walking-inspired events taking place during Chester County Walks Week from October 8th to October 14th.  It is part of the WalkWorks ChesCo! initiative that challenges all Chester County residents to walk five billion steps by the end of this year. Presently more than 3.3 billion steps have been registered!

The West Chester Borough route was selected through a collaborative effort between the West Chester Borough Council, West Chester Borough Manager, Chester County Planning Commission and the Chester County Health Department. The 2.4-mile route represents a safe and accessible walk that highlights points of interest capturing West Chester’s heritage and offers a variety of land uses and cultural settings for walkers to enjoy.

Details and a map of the Downtown West Chester WalkWorks route can be found at http://chesco.org/DocumentCenter/View/47257/West-Chester-WW-Route.

WalkWorks ChesCo! is designed to promote, educate and empower residents to adopt a healthier lifestyle one step at a time by creating more places for walking, supporting and promoting walking groups, coordinating walking challenges and – importantly – creating a website that allows everyone to track and tally their steps towards the five billion-goal.
