‘Holding pattern’ for Ridge Road work

According to PennDOT engineer Fran Hanney, the department is in "a holding pattern" with regard to when work will begin on Ridge Road as part of Pettinaro’s plan for a new shopping center.

The retail development plans for The Shoppes at Ridge Road — at Route 202 and Ridge Road in Concord Township — call for Ridge Road to be widened to six lanes for roughly one-quarter of a mile from Route 202 to the back end of the shopping center property.

Hanney said in an email that Pettinaro had not yet contacted PennDOT to schedule a pre-construction meeting so there’s no time frame yet on when work is scheduled to begin.

"They are required to contact us as a condition of their permit prior to the start of work. Accordingly, we are in a holding pattern and have no further information at this time," he said.

Earlier this year, Hanney said the road work is to be done in stages, with most of the work done under standard conditions with flaggers and lane closures. However, stage two of the work would require Ridge Road being closed for less than a month. He added at the time that access to Olde Ridge Village would be maintained. Detour signs are to go up 14 days before the road is closed.

According to a July 13 email from Chadds Ford Township, work on Ridge Road is not expected to begin until Spring 2019.
