Police Log May 23: Sobriety checkpoints, Accidents, DUIs

Pennsylvania State Police will conduct sobriety checkpoints during the Memorial Day weekend, May 25 through 28. Troopers will stop vehicles at selected locations to observe drivers for displays of drug or alcohol impairment.

• A West Chester woman was transported to Chester County Hospital with suspected injuries following a two-vehicle accident on Route 1 at Parkersville Road in Pennsbury Township. The accident happened May 15. Police said the injured woman, identified as Rebecca M. Doyle, was driving south on Parkersville when, after stopping for the stop sign at the intersection, attempted a left-turn onto Route 1 and collided with an oncoming truck. The report said Doyle was cited.

• A two-car crash on Lenape Road, east of Route 926, in Pennsbury Township on May 13 led to one driver being cited and the other being warned. Two people, one driver and her passenger, were believed to have been injured but were not transported, the report said. According to police, Katherine, G. Rhea, 44, of Limerick, driving a 2010 Honda Accord north on Route 52, was turning right onto Route 926 behind a Toyota Corolla driven by Cecilia O. Shipe, 25, of Bridgeport. Police said Shipe was also turning right at the intersection and was struck from behind by Rhea. Rhea was cited for following too closely while Shipe received a warning for not being able to show financial responsibility. Police said they suspected Shipe and her passengers, 25-year-old Elias E. Sepulveda, of being injured but neither was taken to the hospital.

Southern Chester County Regional Police

• Raymundo Martinez-Ramirez, 34, of Avondale, was arrested and charged with DUI and traffic offenses on April 14 in New Garden Township, according to a police report. Shortly before midnight, the report said, police observed "numerous indicators suggesting intoxication." Field sobriety tests confirmed impairment; they said. He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and submitted to a chemical test of his breath, resulting in a blood alcohol level of 0.147 percent, police said.

• Police said John P. Dawyot Jr., 26, of Landenberg, was arrested and charged with drug offenses, after the 2015 Jeep he was driving was stopped for a stop sign violation. The incident occurred on April 10 at 9:51 p.m., at the intersection of Newark Road and Laurel Heights Road, in New Garden Township. According to the report, police detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and a small amount of marijuana and related paraphernalia was seized.

• Lukas B. Mellott, 25, of Peach Bottom, was arrested and charged with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act and with a traffic offense, after the 2002 Buick he was driving was stopped for non-functioning rear lights on April 9, police said. Police made the traffic stop at 10:35 p.m. in the 8900 block of Gap Newport Pike, New Garden Township. According to the report, police detected the odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle

• Sean Maichle, 29, of Rehoboth Beach, was arrested and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses, as well as with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, after the 1990 Oldsmobile he was operating was stopped for erratic driving. The incident occurred on April 6 at 4:09 p.m., in the 900 block of Newark Road, in New Garden Township.
