Trail grants, new hotel in Concord

Concord Township Council members Tuesday night approved a series of resolutions that OK’d a new hotel and the application for several trail-related grants. At least one of those grants has an implication for Chadds Ford Township.

Engineer Nate Cline said the township wants to look at the possibility of sidewalks and other forms of pedestrian access around the intersection of Routes 1 and 202. Concord would likely partner with Chadds Ford in such a study. The Sidewalk Connectivity Study, if approved, would be through a TCDI — Transportation and Community Development Initiative — grant.

Another grant application is for a study examining the design and construction of a trail on PECO property. That trail would be part of the Octoraro Trail. A third grant application would be for updating Concord’s Open Space Plan with a special look at the interconnectivity of existing and future trails. A fourth trail-related grant would enable Concord to examine connecting its trail system to the First State National Park in Delaware.

Council also gave a thumbs-up for a new hotel along Applied Bank Boulevard. The hotel would be a four-story, 19-room Home 2 by Hilton on a five-acre lot between Crossroads Center on Route 1 and Wegmans.
