The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ has shared the following information about the potential snow event that may affect Chester County beginning Monday night (3/19/18) and potentially last through Wednesday night (3/21/18).

There is still quite a bit of uncertainty with the details, especially regarding snow/sleet accumulations. There is a growing concern for heavy snow on Wednesday across a portion of the area.

Chester County Forecasted Conditions:

This storm system will have two waves of accumulation.

  • Light accumulation of around 1-2” is forecasted for Tuesday
  • There is a potential for more substantial snow accumulations on Wednesday depending on the track of a second coastal storm
  • System does have the potential to bring heavy wet snow and sleet, and strong winds
  • Southeastern Pennsylvania has the highest threat for several inches of accumulating snowfall with the first wave of this storm
  • Winds may reach 20 to 30 mph with gusts over 40 mph

Timing:

  • Precipitation arrives late tonight and expands into southeastern Pennsylvania, and southern and central New Jersey Tuesday morning.
  • Sleet and rain may mix in, especially from Philadelphia south and east on Tuesday.
  • A light wintry mix is likely south and east of I-95 Tuesday night while light snow is possible to the north and west.
  • Heavier precipitation, mainly snow, could overspread portions of the area Wednesday.
  • The precipitation will arrive Monday night and last into Wednesday. It will be steady through the period, but often light at times.

Impacts

  • Hazardous travel due to snow covered roadways and reduced visibility
  • Power outages due to heavy wet snow accumulation on tree limbs and wires
  • Currently the greatest impacts look to be on Wednesday
