Holly A. Silverthorne of West Chester

Holly A. Silverthorne, 95, of West Chester, died Wednesday, February 21, at Wellington Terrace.

She was the wife of the late, Spencer V. Silverthorne Jr. with whom she shared 15 years of marriage before his death in 1962.

Born in New York, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late: John W. and Ethel Smith Appel.

Holly grew up in Scarsdale, N.Y. and attended Bennington College where she received her bachelor’s degree, received her master’s in fine arts from The University of Pennsylvania and received certification from Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

A talented artist known for sculpture, she worked as a sculpture teacher at Baldwin School, Shipley School and Kimberton Waldorf School. She also taught at the Wayne Art Center, Main Line Art Center and The Chester County Art Association. She was the 2003 recipient of First Prize for Sculpture from the Harrisburg Art Association, was a member of Artists of Penn Women at The University of Pennsylvania and featured in Artists of the Brandywine Valley by Catherine Quillman.

Holly is survived by her sons: John R. and Daniel A.; grandchildren Spencer, Katie and Sarah; four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Spencer V., III.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, at First Presbyterian Church of West Chester, 130 West Miner St., West Chester, PA 19382. There will be no calling hours prior to the service. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Chester County Art Association, 100 N. Bradford Ave., West Chester, PA 19380 or Barclay Friends Residents Care Fund, 700 N. Franklin St., West Chester, PA 19380.
