Volunteers prepare for the beginning g of the annual holiday tradition by making the great fr the Brabndywie River Museum Art.

Annual holiday traditions will be continuing in Chadds Ford Township this year, and a new one is about to begin. The large wreath will once again hang on the outside wall of the Brandywine River Museum of Art, while the inside — beginning on Black Friday — will feature Critter ornaments and the ever-popular O gauge model railroad.

And though Chadds Ford Gallery is no more in the Barn Shops, Barbara Moore Fine Art will continue the gallery’s tradition by hosting the annual Christmas in Miniature at the Barn Shops.

But the museum and barn Shops will also be joining forces this coming Saturday with the first ever Christmas Tree lighting in Potts meadow. That will get underway at 4:30 and go to 8:30 p.m.

The trains are a favorite for kids of all ages.

The museum’s train display has been a favorite for more than 40 years. As mentioned in après release, it “offers something for everyone with its dazzling array of both toy and scale model trains made by Lionel, Williams, Atlas, Mike’s Train House, K-line and others.”

Featured are more than 1,000 pieces — locomotives, boxcars, passenger and freight trains, and trolleys — moving on 2,000 feet of track. And that doesn’t include hovering helicopters and Santa sleighs as have been included in recent years.

The Critters are another tradition. Volunteers make ornaments and tabletop decorations — from dogs and cats to angels and stars — handmade from natural materials, such as pine cones and egg shells. The Critters are for sale and proceeds benefit the Volunteers’ Art Purchase Fund and Art Education & Programming.

The annual public Critter Sale starts on Thursday, Nov. 30 from 5 to 9 p.m. and continues on Dec. 1, 2, and 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Critters will also be available for sale in the museum gift shop beginning Monday, Dec. 4, through Sunday, Jan. 7, while supplies last.

Other events at the museum this year include a children’s Christmas party on Dec. 6, Breakfast with the Trains on Dec. 9 and the Music of Ann Wyeth McCoy on Dec. 12 from 2 to 3 p.m.
