Roads on tap in Chadds Ford

During the Chadds Ford Township Board of Supervisors' Oct. 4 meeting, interim Township manager Matt DiFillipo said work on Heyburn has begun. The work started Monday, Oct. 2 as previously announced. DiFillipo said the project should finish in five weeks.

Heyburn Road was shut down this summer when a culvert failed, and a portion of the roadway collapsed.

Also announced was that The Henderson Group is scheduled to go before the township Planning Commission on Oct. 11 with a final plan for the Hillman Drive extension. The extension, if approved, will complete all four segments of the loop road around the intersection of Routes 1 and 202.

Supervisors granted preliminary approval for the project last October and in March approved a roundabout at Hillman and Evergreen Place.

The plan for the loop has been a topic of discussion for decades, and it's something PennDOT officials have said they want. Henderson Vice President Mark Eisenhardt has said his company would pay for the job itself, with no tax money used for the project.

It remains controversial, however. Residents of The Estates a Chadds Ford have expressed displeasure over the fear of more traffic and accidents at the bottom of Evergreen Place, their only means of ingress and egress.t
