Forever stamps with images of Andrew Wyeth art will be available at the Brandywine River Museum on July 12, the 100th anniversary of Wyeth's birth.

• The US Postal Service will debut Andrew Wyeth art on Forever stamps 11 a.m. on July 12 at the Brandywine River Museum. Wyeth’s son Jamie and Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art Executive Director Virginia Logan will be on hand. This pane of 12 Forever stamps celebrates the centennial of the birth of Andrew Wyeth (July 12, 1917 – Jan. 16, 2009). Paintings depicted on the stamps include “Wind from the Sea” (1947), “Big Room” (1988), “Christina’s World” (1948), “Alvaro and Christina” (1968), “Frostbitten” (1962), “Sailor’s Valentine” (1985), “Soaring” (1942–1950), “North Light” (1984), “Spring Fed” (1967), “The Carry” (2003), “Young Bull” (1960), and “My Studio” (1974). The selvage, or area outside of the stamp images, shows a photograph of Wyeth from the 1930s.

• Concord Township Council announced that improvements on the township playground would come in for less than originally thought. The contract with Eagle Contracting has been decreased by $4,800.

• The Grand’s tradition of weekly summer children’s theater programming continues next Thursday, July 13 with “Pippi's Grand Adventure,” performed by Delaware Children's Theatre at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Based on Astrid Lindgren's first Pippi Longstocking book, this show chronicles the adventures of the exuberant heroine Pippi and her human and animal friends. Pippi is a fun character and positive role model - brought to the stage with lively music and dancing. There is no cost for the Summer Explorers performances, though audience members are encouraged to pay-as-you-can, with a $5 donation per person suggested and encouraged. Premium seats can be reserved by making a donation in advance, at least 48 hours prior to the show. If not planning to donate in advance of the show, audience members are encouraged to arrive early (doors open 30 minutes before the start of the show) for walk-up seating, which is first come, first serve. To make a reservation with an advance donation, download and complete the reservation form found at www.TheGrandWilmington.org/Explorers and return it with payment.

• Friday Night Lights returns July 14. The event, hosted by natural lands at the ChesLen Preserve, 1199 Cannery Road in Coatesville, is for adults 1 years and older. It features live music under the stars, stargazing with professional astronomers, beer, wine and food. Tickets, ranging in price from $25 for members to $45 for nonmembers, can be purchased online at natlands.org/fridaynightlights or by phone at 610-353-5587, ext. 221.

Chadds Ford native Jennifer Nicole Campbell will explore how music speaks to us at Jacobs Music of West Chester on July 15.

• Jacobs Music of West Chester is presenting Inside the Pianist’s Studio: Music: Our Universal Storyteller on Saturday, July 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The presentation features Chadds Ford native Jennifer Nicole Campbell. Campbell will explore how music speaks to us. The event is free and will be held at the Steinway Recital Hall, Jacobs Music, 1572 Wilmington Pike, in West Chester.

• It’s Steamin’ Days at Auburn Heights. Steamin’ Days are held the first Sunday of the month now through November. Ticket options vary, but activities available during Steamin’ Days include rides in select antique automobiles from the Marshall Collection, rides on the Auburn Valley Railroad, fresh steam-popped popcorn, a firing up demonstration of a Stanley steam car and more. Ticket options include: Rides Ticket — 4 rides in the antique autos or trains — for $11 ages 13 and up, $8 ages 12 and under; mansion tickets includes tour of two floors of Auburn Heights for $12 ages 13 and up, $6 ages 12 and under; and the combo ticket covers it all, rides and mansion: $19 ages 13 and up, $12 ages 12 and under.
