Bardolino Steakhouse now open

Some restaurants have staying power, while others come and go. Some people have one interest, while others explore new ideas.

Those two points come together at Bardolino Italian Steakhouse and Seafood in the Crossroads Center on Route 1 in Concord Township. Bardolino is in the location of the former Mile High Steakhouse. One of the owners of the new venture is Chadds Ford resident Phil Wenrich.

Wenrich is Chadds Ford’s constable, former roadmaster and past president of the Chadds Ford Civic Association. But Wenrich has had a secret, private passion. He loves baking.

Three of the four owners of Badolino are, from left, Sam Mavraj, Lisa Carman and Phil Wenrch.

With that passion for food, Wenrich said he had the opportunity to team-up with a few people to start Bardolino. Wenrich, his wife Lisa Carman, and brothers Sam and Jack Mavraj, opened in early June.

The Mavraj brothers are the professional foodies of the group with a dozen years experience in the business. Sam Mavraj has 12 years experience at La Verona in Kennett Square and Duling Kurtz Restaurant in Exton. Jack Mavraj is the chef. Carman, a physician, is handling the marketing.

Wenrich said the idea behind the restaurant is to mix a medium- to high-end steakhouse with Italian food.

“It’s a place where you can get a great steak and great Italian Food,” he said.

Sam Mavraj added that it’s a place where the whole family can have a great meal, while Carman added that they want to create memories.

For Carman and Wenrich, the location is significant, especially when it comes to memories. It was where the two of them had their first date.

Bardolino, with seating for 185 that includes an 80-seat banquet room, opens at 11 a.m. every day and serves lunch and dinner. Prices range from $10-$18 for lunch and $18-$45 for dinner.

The current lunch menu has salads starting at $8, appetizers starting at $10 and pizzas going for $12 for a cheese pie with tomato, basil and roasted garlic to $16 for the Bardolino, a white pizza with lump crabmeat. Soups are on the fare for lunch and dinner.

Dinner appetizers run from $7 to $16. Entrées include a mushroom risotto for $20, a roasted rack of lamb for $32 and a T-bone steak for $45.
