Letter: Discussion on Petinarro plan

Please join concerned residents and neighbors at the upcoming Chadds Ford Township meeting to discuss the proposed Pettinaro Shopping Center located on Ridge Road and Route 202. The meeting is 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 30 at the Chadds Ford Township building.

State Rep. Steve Barrar, township Supervisor Frank Murphy, engineer Mike Schneider, PennDOT engineers with traffic study details, and a Unionville Chadds Ford School District Transportation representative are to attend.

Discussions will explore the impact of the shopping center’s main entrance on Ridge Road, the proposed widening of Ridge Road to three lanes, traffic patterns and the date and timing of last traffic study, which resulted in plan approval. Traffic issues also include tractor-trailer access on Ridge Road.

The plan calls for a large grocery store, six other adjoining retail spaces, five restaurants, and a 1,000-car parking lot. While the property is in Concord Township, it borders residential undeveloped Chadds Ford property. As currently proposed, there is a minimal buffer for local residents and creates many issues for people traveling through the area.

Many concerned residents have joined together for other causes — such as Save the Valley and Neighbors for Crebilly Farm — all finding their voices to stop the traffic and encourage responsible growth that does not endanger the quality and safety of life. I am hoping that we can follow that path and come together to represent these values that are important to all of us.

If these plans go forward without intervention it will have a negative effect on the entire Chadds Ford community and all those who travel through using Route 202, Ridge Road, Smithbridge, Ring, Heyburn and other side roads in Chadds Ford Township.
