UHS students busted for underage drinking

Three Unionville High School students were arrested by East Marlborough Police Department for underage drinking, according to a department press release.

Police were called to the school at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016 after Township Police were called at 9:15 am to the school when they seemed to be under the influence of alcohol. One of the students had cold beer in her car, police said.

All three of girls who are seniors failed a portable breath test. The students were released to the custody of their parents.

High school Principal Jimmy Conley later sent a message to parents that said several staff members smelled the presence of alcohol on some students.

School security investigated the reports, and found that the students had been drinking at an off-campus party the night before, but still had alcohol in their systems when they arrived at school.

“By the end of 1st period, each of the students were safely in the main office, and their parents had been contacted. The students have been suspended from school and activities for drinking alcohol; supports have been put into place for the students,” Conley said.

“Sadly, this has been a learning experience for a few of our students, but as a school, we are here to support all of our students. I encourage you to take the opportunity to talk with your children about healthy decisions over the Winter Break,” Conley added.
