The Chester County Conference and Visitors Bureau is holding an open house from Dec. 5 to Dec. 11.

If you’ve always wondered what lies inside the historic white building in between Longwood Gardens and the Longwood Fire Company, the Chester County Conference and Visitors Bureau is offering an opportune time to learn.

The bureau is extending an invitation to the community to stop in during its Holiday Open House week. It will run from Dec. 5 through Dec. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Besides enjoying hot cocoa and candy canes, guests will be able to experience a one-of-a-kind, touch-screen “bridge,” an immersive, interactive tool for learning about Chester County. It debuted this summer to rave reviews.

In addition, visitors can enter a drawing for a $100 gift card, redeemable at the Dilworthtown Inn, the Blue Pear, or the Inn Keepers Kitchen. The winner will be chosen on Monday, Dec. 12.

Additionally, the Visitors Center is serving as a designated drop-off site for “Toys for Tots.” Donations of a new, unwrapped toy will be accepted through Dec. 11.

The building boasts a storied past as the former Longwood Progressive Meeting House. Many members of the founding families in the region — such as the Mendenhalls and Pennocks — and others who hid runaway slaves met. Freed slave Frederick Douglas once spoke there.

The Chester County Conference and Visitors Bureau, created in 1963, is a nonprofit, independent organization that serves as the official tourism promotion agency for Chester County. The bureau is responsible for marketing Chester County and the Brandywine Valley to individual domestic and international leisure travelers; group tour, meeting and event planners; sports tournament producers and travel writers.

The bureau maintains the Brandywine Valley Tourism Information Center at 300 Greenwood Road in Kennett Square and welcomes visitors daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
