Arts center hosting back-to-school bash

The Darlington Arts Center in Concord Township invites the community to its Third Annual Back to School Arts Party on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The party will celebrate music, art, dance, and drama and will include performances and exhibits from Darlington’s professional teaching artists, plus a collaborative community art project, according to a Darlington press release.

“This fun event is a great way to bring the community together and display all the wonderful, diverse talents of our teachers.” Susan N. Quinn, Darlington’s executive director, said in the release.

In 2014, Darlington hosted the first Back to School Arts Party, attracting more than 150 attendees. The party featured performances from 16 music teaching artists and a gallery of 10 visual art teaching artists.

“It’s a great way to showcase the amazing talents of our teachers while providing a fun environment for people of all ages to experience the arts,” Quinn added in the release.

This year’s performers will include teaching artists David Brown (piano), Jennifer Campbell (piano), Kevin Cope (guitar), Bette Halberg (piano), Ethel Olsen (piano) and Barbara Prugh (trumpet) as well as visual art contributors Tia Santana and Rebecca D’Angeli, the release said.

In between the performances, families can browse the gallery, explore Darlington’s beautiful facilities, meet the teaching artists, enjoy refreshments, and participate a collaborative art project appropriate for all ages and skill levels. Teachers and volunteers will guide participants through creating individual pieces that will be assembled and unveiled during the evening’s finale.

A $20 donation is recommended per family.
