Public is invited to Delco 9/11 observance

Delaware County residents are invited to participate in Delaware County’s Annual Sept. 11 Memorial Service at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9.

The ceremony, hosted by Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan, will take place at the Delaware County Law Enforcement and Fire-EMS Memorial in Rose Tree Park, located at 1671 N. Providence Road in Media, said a press release from the District Attorney’s Office.

The ceremony includes the laying of memorial wreaths for police, firefighters and first responders, as well as in commemoration for the victims of Sept. 11 and the servicemen and woman who have given their lives in pursuit of freedom since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Additionally, police officers will be awarded the District Attorney’s Office Order of Merit for heroic actions in the line of duty. Honorees will include Officer Christopher Dorman, Folcroft Police Department; Captain Alan Davis, Chester Police Department; and County Detective Michael Jay of the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division, who will be joined by fellow officers and departments, the release said.

All attendees are asked to arrive 20 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony. Parking is available on-site, and the memorials are handicapped-accessible
