Roadwork for week of July 23

PennDOT has announced the following road projects, which are weather-dependent and could affect residents in the greater Chadds Ford area during the week of July 23 through July 30. Motorists are urged to allow extra time if they are traveling through one of the construction zones.

A line-painting crew will be working on Saturday, July 23, and then Monday, July 25, through Friday, July 29, in Birmingham, Thornbury and Edgemont townships. Motorists are advised to remain ample distance behind the slow-moving painting truck, which will be out from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and to stay off the traffic lines.

Route 1 in Concord Township will be the site of utility installation through Sept. 1. Lane shifts will be needed on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Mainline Health Care project between Brinton Lake Road and Applied Card Way. In addition, lane restrictions will occur between State Farm and Evergreen drives in both directions for curb and sidewalk installation. Crews are scheduled to work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, July 29.Construction is continuing on the Route 202 widening project, which is scheduled for completion in August. Motorists should expect delays for traffic pattern shifts in Tredyffrin and East Whiteland townships.

Drivers on West Miner Street in West Chester Borough will experience lane restrictions on Monday, July 25, through Friday, July 29. Crews will be working at South Bradford Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on utility installation.

The Westtown School has closed Westtown Road between Oak Lane and Westtown Way for a bridge replacement through Friday, July 22. Detours are posted

Lane restrictions will be needed on Mill Road in Concord and Thornbury townships between Brinton Lake and Thornton roads. Milling and paving will be done from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 24, through Thursday, July 28.

Work will continue on the Speakman Covered Bridge in East Fallowfield and West Marlborough townships. Frog Hollow Road between Concord Bridge and Strasburg roads will be closed and detoured until the estimated completion date of Sept. 20.

Green Valley Road in Newlin Township is closed and detoured between Powell andBrandywine Creek roads due to structural deficiencies at the Green Valley Road Bridge. No repair date has been scheduled.

Burnt Mill Road in Kennett Township remains closed and detoured between Norway and Spring Mill roads while advance work continues on repairs to the Burnt Mill Bridge, which was closed on April 24, 2014.

Work is continuing on the Birmingham Road Bridge in Birmingham Township, which was closed in September due to structural damage. Posted 24-hour detours will be in effect between Lambourne Road and Stoney Run Drive. The completion date has been extended to Sept. 20.

Daylong lane closures in both directions will be in place on Route 100 in Uwchlan and West Whiteland townships from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday, July 25, through Friday, July 28, for construction. The work covers an area between Swedesford Road and Sheree Boulevard.

Kelly Drive will be closed on Saturday, July 23, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. for the Philadelphia Youth Regatta. Kelly Drive will be detoured from the Strawberry Mansion Bridge to Fountain Green Drive.

On Sunday, July 24, through Thursday, July 28, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., lane closures are scheduled on Mill Road between Brinton Lake Road and Thornton Road in Concord and Thornbury townships for milling and resurfacing, and on Stony Bank Road between Baltimore Pike and Glen Mills Road in Chester Heights Borough and Thornbury Township for milling.

In preparation for the upcoming Democratic National Convention, commercial vehicles weighing more than five tons will be prohibited from traveling on I-95 between I-76 and I-676 in Philadelphia from Saturday, July 23, at noon until midday Friday, July 29. In addition, the I-95 northbound and southbound exit ramps at the Broad Street interchange in South Philadelphia will be closed to all traffic from Friday, July 22, at 8 p.m. until midday on Friday, July 29, part of the extra security at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia. Although all interstate highways and expressways in the Philadelphia region will remain open to passenger vehicles throughout the convention, motorists are advised to allow additional time for travel on I-76, I-676 and Route 291 during the week of the convention; these highways are expected to experience heavier traffic volumes due to commercial vehicles’ being diverted off I-95.
