• Are you seeking a creative outlet but find that your time – and training – is limited? The Brandywine River Museum of Art is offering a way to unwind, mingle and make art with its “Creative Escapes: Winter Designs in Clay.” Designed for adults who want to awaken their inner artist, this program will include inspiration from winter scenes in the museum's collection and feature a hands-on tile-making activity. Participants will be guided as they shape and carve designs in a soft clay tile, which later will be fired in a kiln, and will be available for pick-up at the museum one week after each workshop. The event is set for Wednesday, Jan. 27, and again on Feb. 17, from 6-8 p.m. Tickets are $15 for members, $20 for non-members. Cost includes art materials and light refreshments. • Christiana Care Health System’s Center for Heart & Vascular Health will host the February support group meeting of WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2. The WomenHeart support group is for women who have heart disease or who are at risk of developing heart disease.  The meeting topic will be  The Healing Power of Journaling for the Body, Mind, and Spirit presented by Joan Leof, owner of Write to Heal.  The meeting will be held at the John H. Ammon Medical Education Center, Room 14, on the Christiana Hospital Campus, 4755 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark. Registration is requested by calling 800-693-2273.

• The Unionville-Chadds Ford Education Foundation invites the public to help celebrate its 20th anniversary on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 7 to 11 p.m. Held at the Gables of Chadds Ford, 423 Baltimore Pike, the fundraising night will include hors d'oeuvres, dancing, cocktails, silent auction and fun. • The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors free tax assistance to middle and low-income taxpayers, with special attention to those 60 and older. AARP volunteers will be available for appointments on Monday, Feb. 8; Tuesdays, Feb. 16 and 23; and Fridays, Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26. The times are from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and are by appointment only. • Who says history is boring? The Chadds Ford Historical Society is excited to offer a new, engaging monthly series called Tavern Talks. This series, designed exclusively for adults 21 and older, will focus on unexplored aspects of early American history and culture with hands-on activities, food and drink tastings, demonstrations, and more. Tavern Talks will kick off on Thursday, Feb. 11 from 7-9 p.m. with “Chocolate and Courtship” during the 18th century. Guests will have the opportunity to sample edible aphrodisiacs, try their hand at composing a proper love letter, watch chocolate-making demonstration, learn about bundling bags and other colonial courtship rituals as well as additional interactive activities. A special wine tasting by Chaddsford Winery will also be provided. Admission is $10 for non-members and $5 for members. • The Delaware Nature Society has received a grant from the William Penn Foundation to continue its Clean Water Campaign, an initiative launched in 2015. The grant will be used to integrate a communications and marketing program that highlights the public’s desire for clean water funding, and engage elected officials in the efforts to secure dedicated clean water funding.
