Truck & Tractor Day to rev up at Winterthur

Hopping aboard a fire truck, hitching a ride on a hay wagon, visiting a sawmill, or milking a mechanical cow are among the offerings available during Winterthur’s 4th Annual Truck & Tractor Day on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Activities will abound for kids of all ages during this family-friendly event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine (except in the event of a major storm) at the Brown Horticultural Learning Center, Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library, 5105 Kennett Pike, Wilmington, De., 19807.

Truck & Tractor Day supports the Winterthur Fire Company, and firefighters will be on hand to conduct live demonstrations. For those who prefer the indoors, crafts will be offered in the Brown Center. All activities are included with general admission and free to Winterthur members. (Special offers and reciprocal admission cannot be used for admittance during this special event.)

Winterthur – known for its preeminent collection of American decorative arts, naturalistic gardens, and research library for the study of American art and material culture – offers a variety of tours, exhibitions, programs, and activities throughout the year. “Tiffany Glass: Painting with Color and Light,” an exhibit that focuses on the artistry of Louis C. Tiffany, through his acclaimed lamps and windows, runs through Jan. 3.

Admission to Winterthur is $20 adults; $18 for students and seniors; $5 for ages 2–11. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Winterthur, located on Route 52, six miles northwest of Wilmington, Delaware, and five miles south of U.S. Route 1, is closed on Mondays (except during Yuletide), Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
