Kennett Twp. Police issue 2nd burglary alert

Several weeks after the Kennett Township Police Department issued an alert about daytime burglaries, another one on Aug. 24 has prompted a second warning.

Kennett Township Police are urging residents to be vigilant after a spate of daytime burglaries.

Police were already investigating several forced-entry break-ins that occurred in the northeast section of the township earlier this month. The department is urging residents to report any suspicious activity to 9-1-1 immediately, to exercise vigilance,  and to take steps to improve security.

The department recommends making homes look occupied, especially if residents are going out of town, ensuring that it would be difficult to break in; thieves typically prefer an easy target.

Push-button locks or doorknobs are a cinch for burglars to open; the department recommends installing deadbolt locks on all outside doors. Sliding glass doors are also vulnerable, and special locks are available that provide better security. Locks can also be installed on windows that could be pried open with minimal effort.

Anyone who may have information on the burglaries is asked to contact the Kennett Township Police Department at 610-388-2874, ext. 119, or email Chief Lydell E. Nolt at Lydell.nolt@kennett.pa.us.
