The Philadelphia Orchestra is poised to make tickets available to its 2015-16 season as well as a free neighborhood concert.

Highlights of the orchestra’s 2015-16 season include a Vienna Festival, Mahler's colossal "Symphony of a Thousand," conductor James Levine's return to Philadelphia, the world premiere of Hannibal's “One Land, One River, One People,” and a spotlight on the music of John Williams, with a rare appearance by the five-time Academy Award and 21-time Grammy Award winner, who leads a special concert on May 4, an orchestra press release said.

"I am excited and inspired by our 2015-16 season, which presents multiple ways for audiences to experience the legendary Philadelphia Sound, and focuses on an important aspect of our roots, the championing and premiering of new repertoire," Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin said in the release. "We will revisit great works that the orchestra has premiered throughout its rich history, premiere new commissions, celebrate the musical legacy of the noble city of Vienna, and collaborate with the world's finest guest artists, eager to share in the making of this magnificent sound."

Free pre- and post-concert performances will take place on the stage in Commonwealth Plaza, courtesy of the Kimmel Center. From 4 to 5 p.m. Jeff Coon and Fran Prisco, two of Philadelphia's well-known musical theater actors, will sing a medley of classic Broadway, and from 5 to 6 p.m. the Brazilian duo Minas will perform. Following the orchestra's concert, jazz artist Shakera Jones will take the stage. All are invited to arrive early and bring a picnic to savor in Commonwealth Plaza, the release said.

The concert is free but tickets are required, and are available at https://www.philorch.org/concert/free-neighborhood-concert-4#/, beginning Tuesday, July 21, at 10 a.m. Please note that free tickets do not guarantee seating, which is general admission and first come, first served.
