Free trunk packs historical punch

When the Chester County Historical Society (CCHS) packs an oversized suitcase, it’s heavily weighted with educational materials. As a result, more than 3,000 area students have been transported each year to periods in history through the Traveling Trunk Program.

The John
The John H. Ware 3rd Government and Citizenship Educational Trunk, which was developed through funding from the 1675 Foundation, is available for free to educators.

CCHS has numerous trunks on various historical topics that teachers can select and rent for a nominal fee to use in the classroom. The trunks contain lesson plans, hands-on activities, and graphics drawn from CCHS's collections to link local history to state standards in Social Studies and History. Topics range from Lenape Children to the Revolutionary War to the Underground Railroad.

Now, CCHS is pleased to announce the arrival of the John H. Ware 3rd Government and Citizenship Educational Trunk, which was developed through funding from the 1675 Foundation. This trunk is named in honor of John H. Ware 3rd, an elected official who served at the local, state and federal levels of government.

The new Ware trunk introduces students to a wide variety of topics related to government structure, people, issues, rights and responsibilities, and media, all from a Chester County perspective. Thanks to the 1675 Foundation, the trunk is available free for educators to enjoy.
