Joseph E. Bentzel, 91, of West Chester, died on Thursday, Dec. 25, at Bryn Mawr Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia Jacoby Bentzel, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.
Born in York, he was a son of the late Ervin and the late Mae (Savage) Bentzel. Mr. Bentzel served our country during WWII as a technical sergeant in the Army Air Corps, successfully completing 30 combat missions in the European Theater, as a top turret gunner and engineer on a B-17 bomber. Joe was very proud of his service to his country.
He was a technician in the HVAC industry for many years and enjoyed several other professions during his life as well. He was a longtime member of Willowdale Chapel where he participated in many prayer groups. He enjoyed listening to all kinds of music. Most important was quality time with his family, and he adored his grandchildren.
Survivors include in addition to his wife, five children, Joseph Bentzel of California, Marianna Wolfmeyer of McHenry, Ill., Celeste LeFort (Robert) of Braintree, Mass., William S. Bentzel (Michelle) of Dun Ellen, N.J. and George K. Bentzel (Nancy) of Billings, Mont.; one brother, Andrew Bentzel of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Delores Kleinfelder of Ocean City, N.J.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a son Barry.

A funeral service celebrating his life will follow at 3 p.m. Interment will be held privately.
