Week to focus on plight of homeless

On any given night in Chester County, 684 people experience homelessness, 70,000 people have inadequate food, and 13,000 children go to bed hungry, a county news release said.

Each year, the National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is held just before Thanksgiving to bring awareness to the problems of hunger and homelessness in the United States. This year, Chester County’s participation in National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week will be held from Nov. 13-20

The Chester County NHHAW Planning Committee has a full week of events planned to promote awareness and advocacy of those affected by hunger and homelessness in the county. The kick-off activity will be held Thursday, Nov. 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kennett Square American Legion Hall, 208 E. State St., Kennett Square, where officials will provide insight into the problem and solutions in place to address hunger and homelessness in Chester County.

Participation in National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week will bring greater awareness to area communities, and also help promote the national endeavor to end hunger and homelessness.

Join faith communities, schools, service organizations, government, local businesses and corporations in addressing these struggles by taking part in this week of solidarity and understanding.
