Earl T.”Rusty” Jones Jr. of Kennett Square

Earl T."Rusty" Jones Jr., 62, of Kennett Square, died suddenly at his home on Saturday, Oct. 25. He was the husband of Linda Brison Jones, with whom he shared 39 years of marriage. Born in West Chester, he was the oldest son of the late Earl T. "Pete" Sr. and Ida Green Jones.

Rusty graduated from Kennett High School in 1970, where he participated in choir , orchestra (cello) , and baseball and basketball, then attended Drexel University. Rusty worked at E.I. DuPont Nemours Co. for over 30 years, before his retirement in 2010.

He was a member of The Church of the Open Door inKennett Square, where he sang in the choir and performed other duties and responsibilities around the church. Rusty was a board member of the Kennett Area Underground Railroad, where he enjoyed participating in the re-enactments of that era , Civil Service Commission, Martin Luther King Community Advocates, and the Kennett Community Choir. He was a member of the Inclusive Social Ministry for Solidarity. Rusty was a member of the West Chester Adult Baseball League, where he won the batting champion title in the 1970s. He also was a long-time member of the Kennett Men's Senior Baseball League, where he was a member of the Kennett National Championship team in 1998 in Florida. He had a great love of music, crossword puzzles, comic books and gardening especially with his granddaughters. Rusty very dedicated and devoted to his wife, Linda. He loved his children, Chris and Kierstyn, and was a loving and wonderful "O-PA"(grand-pop) to all his granddaughters.

In addition to his wife, Rusty is survived by one son, Christopher Jones and his wife Karen of Downingtown; one daughter, Kierstyn Ryan and her husband Brent of Philadelphia; granddaughters, Talia Jones, Bryn Ryan and Kyla Ryan; a God-daughter, Stephanie Walls; one brother, Mercer Jones and his wife Doris of Kennett Square, PA, brothers-in-law, Mitchell (Cathy), Phillip (Judy), and John; sisters-in-law, Detra (James) and June, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Journey Ryan.

You are invited to visit with Rusty's family and friends from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the United Methodist Church of the Open Door, 
210 South Broad Street, Kennett Square, with the funeral service immediately following at 10:30.

Interment will be at the Union Hill Cemetery, 424 N. Union Street in Kennett Square.
