Jibri M. Richardson, 22, of Ardmore, and Michael F. O’Brien, 59, of Glen Mills, were observed by a school employee at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, using a small-caliber rifle to target shoot on the school’s property.  The school was placed in lock down status until officers from the Malvern Police Department arrived and disarmed the men, the release said.

Malvern police located the two men leaving the school’s property.  They had set up targets and were firing a .22-caliber rifle at the targets.  No one was injured in the incident, the release said.

Malvern Police are charging the defendants by summons with possession of weapon on school property, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct, the release said.

“As always, people must be careful and use common sense when handling firearms.  Given recent incidents with active shooters, firing a rifle in close proximity to a school is simply a dumb thing to do,” said Hogan.  “We are glad that the school and the police responded quickly and appropriately.”
