Michael Joseph "Joe" Hunt, 89, of Glen Mills and formerly of West Chester, died Sept. 26, surrounded by his loving family at Maris Grove Retirement Community.

Born in Philadelphia in 1925, Joe was the son of the late Michael Joseph and Sarah (Kennedy) Hunt.

He was a 1943 graduate of St. Thomas Moore High School and was a loyal attendant of the yearly Communion Breakfast and a supporter of the Scholarship Fund.

He served honorably in the US Navy during World War II as a signalman second class and received the following commendations: Pacific Theater Ribbon (4 Stars), Philippine Liberation (2 Stars), American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He served on the U.S.S. Dayen and the U.S.S. P.C. 803 and made many landings including Saipan, Guam, Leyte, Luzon, Okinawa and Japan.

He was a 4th Degree Knight HL with the Knights of Columbus Council #4461 Santa Anna.

Joe was a self-employed distributor for US Gypsum and an award-winning salesman for their steel grating and brackets. He also attended trade school for architectural drafting.

He was the beloved husband of Mildred E. "Midge" (nee Paoli) Hunt; loving "adopted" father/uncle of Linda Paoli Conners (Mark), Rose Radico (Chuck), Peter Paoli (Maureen), Grace Wiggins (John) Raymond Paoli (Sharon); dear brother of Catherine Ireland and her daughter Colleen Guzejko (Jack). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Angie Schwakoff and Florence McCormick.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation 10:15-11:30 a.m. followed by his Funeral Mass 11:30 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul Church, 1325 Boot Road, West Chester, PA 19382. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Thomas Scholarship Fund at "STMAA", P.O. Box 294, Drexel Hill, PA 19026.
