The Chadds Ford Vietnam Memorial was stolen sometime in the overnight hours between Wednesday, July 23 to Thursday, July 24. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating, but there’s been no official word from the police as yet.

The memorial, a cannon on a stone base, was dedicated on Nov. 11, 1966 and is believed to be the oldest monument to Vietnam veterans in the country. It was near the Route 202 site of the Chadds Ford side of the Wegmans development and was to be moved to a safe location while work on the property was underway. However, that hadn't yet happened.

Peter Miller, of Carlino Construction, the developer, said he is shocked and upset over the theft and that it will be replaced..

The base of the monument remains, but the cannon is gone as is the dedication plaque.
