• Dramatic wooden sculptures of birds and animals, hand-carved in the 19th century by German immigrant Wilhelm Schimmel, are the focus of a new special exhibition at the Brandywine River Museum of Art. Wilhelm Schimmel: A Bold Piece of Work is on view from May 23 through June 22. There will be a Gallery Talk on his work June 4.

• The Carousel Performing Arts Center of Kennett Square, presents its full-length musical production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast, Jr.” on June 6 and 7 at Kennett High School. Bringing this tale to life are more than 50 talented students from the Avon Grove, Kennett, Red Clay and Unionville-Chadds Ford School districts. Share in the magic at two fabulous performances on Friday, June 6 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 8 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students and senior citizens, and $15 for adults. Kennett High School is located at 100 East South Street, Kennett Square, PA.

The Administrators of the Kennett Consolidated School District and the Unionville Chadds Ford School District will once again sponsor the annual Kennett/Unionville Community Breakfast on June 7 from 7:30-9:30 a.m. in the cafeteria at Unionville High School. This joint event brings together members of both school districts for a morning of good food, good company and fellowship.  This year’s event will be held in the Unionville High School Cafeteria and coincides with the Kennett/Unionville Relay for Life fundraiser. As in past years, district administrators will be on hand to cook and serve.  Superintendents Barry Tomasetti of Kennett and John Sanville of Unionville will be the “Top Chefs” for the event supported by administrators and teachers from both school districts.

• The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors a free Medicare counseling session on Thursday, June 5 and 19 from 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sign up to meet with a Department of Aging volunteer from APPRISE who can help you with any questions you have about Medicare and your individual coverage. Please contact the KASC at 610-444-4819 to make an appointment.
