Brandywine River Museum of Art offers Art Classes at Kuerner Farm this spring.

Create your own masterpiece inspired by Kuerner Farm, the Chadds Ford farm that inspired Andrew Wyeth for over 70 years, through art classes on the site this spring offered by the Brandywine River Museum of Art.  This is the first time the museum has offered art classes at the farm.

Drawing Kuerner Farm

Saturday, April 26, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This workshop, led by associate educator and artist Jane Chesson, is open to all levels and will include individualized instruction and guidance. Drawing materials will be provided. Participants will meet at the museum. Participants should dress appropriately for the outdoors; covered areas will be used in case of rain. Workshop cost is $30 or $24 with member discount. Art Class with Karl J. Kuerner

Class meets for 8 weeks on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 6 to June 24, or on Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m., May 8 to June 26.

Noted Chadds Ford artist Karl J. Kuerner will teach a series of classes at the Kuerner Farm. As the grandson of two of Andrew Wyeth's best-known subjects and a student of Carolyn Wyeth, Karl's personal experiences with the farm provide special insight into the property and its rich history. Participants will provide art materials of their own choosing, and should dress appropriately for working outdoors. The first class will begin at the museum. Kuerner Farm

Andrew Wyeth discovered Karl and Anna Kuerner's farm, located about a mile from his parents' house, on one of his boyhood walks. As a young artist, Wyeth developed a close relationship with the Kuerners, and roamed the house and property freely to draw and paint.  Beginning with his earliest painting of the farm in 1932 at the age of 15, Wyeth found inspiration in its residents, buildings and landscapes for nearly 1,000 works of art.

 

The farm is now owned by the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art, which offers tours from April through mid-November.  In 2011, the Kuerner Farm was designated a National Historic Landmark. The cost is $8 in addition to museum admission.

 

The Brandywine River Museum of Art, located on U.S. Route 1 in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, is open daily (except Christmas Day) from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for seniors ages 65 and over, $6 for children ages 6 and older and free for children 5 and younger and Brandywine Conservancy members. Museum admission is free on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to noon through November 24 (except May 25 during the Annual Antiques Show).
