Esther Hopson Briggs of West Grove

Esther Hopson Briggs, 87, of West Grove, died Saturday, Feb. 22, at Brandywine Assisted Living. She was the wife of Martin Briggs, who died in 2009, and with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.

Born in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Ervin Hopson and Delia Bailey Hopson. 
Esther worked for West Grove Knitting Mills for 25 years, retiring in 1987.

She was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Nottingham.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and reading.

Esther is survived by one son Larry Briggs and his wife Mary Lou of Landenberg; son-in-law John Hughes of West Grove; four grandchildren, John Hughes, Jr. and wife Nicole of Bergton, Va., Laura Hughes Hammond of Oxford, Jennifer Briggs McLean and husband Art of Avondale, and Kristie Briggs and husband Charlie of Omaha, Neb.; and eight great grandchildren, Brittany, Victoria, Brooke, Christopher, Zachary, Elliot, Elissa, and Toby.

She was predeceased by her beloved daughter Edna Hughes and son Phillip; two sisters, Mae Jones and Laura Barnett; six brothers, Laus, Clyde, Paul, James, Robert, and Claude Hopson.

You are invited to visit with her family and friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m./ on Friday, Feb. 28, at the Foulk & Grieco Funeral Home, 200 Rose Hill Road in West Grove. Her funeral service will follow. Burial will be in the New London United Methodist Cemetery, State Road in New London.
