Pastor John E. Borroughs, 83, died Thursday, Oct. 3. He was the husband of Patricia Gravels Borroughs, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester County, Va., he was the son of the late John Paul and Rebecca Gunn Borroughs.
He was the pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Avondale for the past 28 years.
Pastor Borroughs touched the hearts of many through his personal interaction with others and his support of global Missionaries. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a skilled carpenter.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, John D. Borroughs and his wife Lee Ann of Oxford; three daughters, Michele A. Hanks and her husband Michael of Pasadena, Md., Donna M. Nugent and her husband Charles of Newark, Del. and Karen L. Stefanides and her husband Jon of Bel Air, Md.; two sisters, Pauline Miller of Glen Burnie, Md. and Helena Oliver of Hayes, Va.; 1 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
You are invited to visit with his family and friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, October 7, and again from 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 218 Ellicott Road in Avondale. His funeral service will follow on Tuesday at noon. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, RR # 2, Annville, Pa.
