Ann Gray King of Chadds Ford

Ann Gray King passed away peacefully on July 1 at Riddle Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Chester on Dec. 4, 1924 to Harry L. and Laura H. Gray, the youngest of three children.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Harry H. King Jr., her sister, Ruth Manley, and her brother, Harry L. Gray.

Ann graduated from Chester High School in 1941 and worked as a laboratory technician at Sun Oil Company during WW II.  She spent most of her free time boating and fishing on the Chesapeake.

Ann and Harry made their home in Chadds Ford in 1950 where they raised four children who survive her:  son Harry H. King III of Chadds Ford, his wife Cynthia and children Harry H. IV and Kristin; son Wilson R. King of Oxford, his wife Victoria, his children Pia and Alexandra, and their mother Trish Hazzard; son Robert B. King of Chadds Ford, and his wife Katharine and their children Peter, Martha, Hannah, and Robert; and daughter Laura L. King of Oxford, and her children G. Anthony Happel, and John and Ella Brophy.

Ann was a member of Unionville Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon prior to becoming a faithful member of Bethany Presbyterian Church.  She was a long-time member of the Kennett Square Golf & Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf and bridge.  Involvement in the Rose Tree Pony Club was a real joy as she supported the equine activities of her children.  Ann cherished the friendships she made through these organizations which have lasted a lifetime.  Her other interests included painting, needlework, and reading.  Ann was known to speak her mind and she enjoyed sharing her home and her great cooking.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 316 Kennett Pike in Mendenhall.  A reception will follow at Mendenhall Inn.  All are welcome to attend.  The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Brandywine Conservancy, Attn: George A.
