Letter to the editor: Call for interim assessments

Referring to the "Supervisors get earful..." article of Dec. 7, specifically on the subject of lack of proper submission of permits & COs (Certificates of Occupancy); I wish to address the Chadds Ford Township officials' comments near the end of the article. The accurately reported quotes of Donaghue and Thorpe are just plain wrong.  Additionally, they are "throwing under the bus" our Delaware County's Assessor's Office and personnel, which I find morally repugnant.

Citizens, I, along with our current elected tax collector and others have asked for the township to use their efforts and influence to request the Assessors’ Office to please proactively and properly reach back in time with interim assessments toward the CO dates (the acknowledged date at which value is established) for the properties missed. This is to at least try to responsibly recover some portion of the lost tax revenues for the three taxing jurisdictions — Chadds Ford Township, Delaware County and especially the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District (by far largest looser).  This would also be a proper service to our taxpayers and residents who have, and are, paying their proper real estate property taxes, as well as their children attending U-CFSD.

Perhaps the township could join forces with school district officials in "negotiating" a more positive outcome with DelCo’s Assessment Office, just perhaps as the morally right thing to do under the circumstances.
