Kennett Symphony announces winners of 2012 instrumental competition

KENNETT SQUARE, PA - The Kennett Symphony of Chester County’s Music Director, Mary Woodmansee Green, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 Kennett Symphony Instrumental Competition held on Saturday, November 17, 2012, in the Kendal-at-Longwood Auditorium. The annual competition, chaired by Paul and Irena Merluzzi, is for gifted musicians in grades 9-12. This year, 16 gifted young musicians from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware took part.
The winners are: violinist Beatrice Hsieh (First Place $500), flutist Nicole Ozdowski (Second Place $300) and violinist Sein An (Third Place $100). Ms. Hsieh will perform in the August 2013 Kennett Symphony of Chester County program at Longwood Gardens.
Beatrice Hsieh of North Wales, PA, is a 16 year old junior at North Penn High School. She is currently a student of Helen Kwalwasser at Temple University’s Music Preparatory Division. Beatrice is the daughter of Ie-Hao and Lydia Hsieh and performed the first movement of Brahms’ Violin Concerto.
Nicole Ozdowski of Broomall, PA, is a 15 year old sophomore at Marple Newtown High School. The daughter of Daniel and Mariko Ozadowski, Nicole studies with Dr. Adeline Tomasone and performed Nielsen’s Flute Concerto.
14 year-old Sein An is a freshman at Upper Dublin High School. The daughter of Jue-Weon and Ki-Ho An of Maple Glen, PA, she studies cello with Dr. Eduard Schmieder at the Temple University’s Music Preparatory Division. She played the Glazunov Violin Concerto.
Now in its 72nd season, the Kennett Symphony reaches young audiences through its annual Children's Concerts. The Kennett Symphony maintains a strong commitment to education through its affiliation with the Kennett Symphony Children's Chorus, and by encouraging talented young artists with annual Instrumental and Voice Competitions.
