Impending storm closes schools

All schools and offices will be closed in the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District on Monday, Oct. 29 and Tuesday, Oct. 30 due to the
forecast of Hurricane Sandy.

According to the latest forecast, tropical storm-force winds (40 mph and higher) are forecast to begin in the area early on Monday. Winds of this magnitude or higher are forecast to continue through Tuesday. Power outages and severe flooding (5 to 12 inches of rain) are also expected. In addition, the Brandywine River is expected to crest above 13 feet on Tuesday.

Because of potentially long power outages, we are making the rare decision to close for the next two days in order to allow parents and staff time to
prepare. If our buildings have power and roads are passable for buses, we will open schools on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Please check our Web site at www.ucfsd.org for any updates. Information regarding closings or delays for Wednesday will also be reported by our local TV and radio stations.
