Letter to the Editor: Democrats are out of touch

It’s a simple question. Are you better off today than you were four years ago?

Apparently President Obama, the Democrats and I do not agree on this most basic of questions.

When White House officials recently stated “Americans are better off now than four years prior” and the Democrat National Committee Communications Director Brad Woodhouse said that, “Americans are absolutely better off,” I was shocked. [Emphasis added.]

I am sure the millions of people, who are struggling just to get by each week, looking for the cheapest place to buy gas and groceries and those searching for a job — any job — wouldn’t agree. Either the Democrats are out of touch with reality or they are once again trying to fool the American public.  Sounds like "smoke and mirrors" to me.

The Democratic administration is out of touch with folks. People, who used to contribute to food banks, are now standing in line to get food for themselves and their families; persons, who would have never thought about filing for bankruptcy, have now had to take that harsh step. Students are rethinking where they can afford to go to continue their education.  Seniors and the soon to be seniors — the baby boomers — are wondering about their bleak future and why so much of the money they invested and that they and their employers contributed to Social Security is going to those who never contributed and aren't even citizens. Small business owners are concerned about all the regulations and taxes to go into effect in 2013, so are hesitating to hire new people. Now so many jobseekers are just dropping off the rolls. ObamaCare has some good things that are already in effect, but there are so many other features that will have far reaching damaging effects on Americans.

Collaboration within the Congress is absolutely vital to get anything accomplished and that means all parts of our government.

I feel Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have the right combination of experience to guide this country in the right direction. Our future, and our grandchildren's futures, are at stake.
