James W. Harriz of Avondale

James W. Harriz, 78, of Avondale, died  Wednesday, Sept. 12. The son of the late Clifford G. Harriz and Eleanor Harriz Riker, Jim was born in Washington, DC during the depression and later resided in Media, Westtown and Avondale. Jim served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.

Surviving Jim is his wife of 54 years, Margaret D. Harriz; sons Thomas (Linda) of Simpsonville, S.C., Eric (Gina) of Kinnelon, N.J.  and Jeffery of Newark; daughter Kimberly Harriz of Arlington, Va.; brother John Harriz (Jaclyn) of Glen Mills; sisters Elizabeth Duffy (Michael) and Maggee Harriz of Ocala, Fla. and 10 grandchildren.

An employee of DuPont in Wilmington, Jim was especially aware of safety procedures and the preservation of the environment. A curious mind provided him with an interest in the stock market, politics, science and antiques. His favorite tool was the 'C' clamp.  Being an avid hunter and fisherman, there were always great stories to be told. Jim's favorite expression was "Everyday is an adventure" and he lived each day to the fullest.

Jim was a member of St. Michael Lutheran Church.

A service of Christian Burial will be held at the church on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. with friends received from 9 to 10 a.m.  Burial will be private.

Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Frederick DeRasmo and the Rev. Gayle Reuter.
