•Route 926 will be closed and detoured between Route 52 and
Parkerville Road in Pennsbury Township for intersection realignment from Sept.
15 through Oct. 17. Motorists will be detoured over Route 52, Route 1
North, and Creek Road. The 24-hour closure is expected to finish by
mid-October. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through this area.

• The Brandywine
Battlefield Park on Route 1 in Chadds Ford will hold a Sept. 11 remembrance
ceremony at 6 p.m. on Sept. 11. It’s free to the public. The event marks not
only the 2001 tragedy but also the date in 1777 when the actual Battle of
Brandywine occurred. Ceremony includes an address by State Rep. Stephen
Barrar, Gen. George Washington reading a report of the battle, ringing of a
Bell of Remembrance from the New York site, patriotic songs and a musket firing
salute. The event lasts approximately 1/2 hour.

• Penn State Extension
Master Gardeners of Chester County will hold a workshop titled “Vegetable
Gardening — Focus on Fall.” The workshop will be held Oct. 1, 1-3 p.m., at the
East Goshen Township Building, 1580 Paoli Pike, West Chester. The workshop is
intended for residents interested in growing vegetables, fruits, or herbs and
will address end-of season issues such as protecting crops, extending the
harvest, cover crops, and so forth. Master gardeners will provide easy
step-by-step instructions for getting the most out of the vegetable garden. The
cost is just $10 and space is limited. Register by calling 610-696-3500 or send

• Torchiere Arts brings
photography to Darlington Arts Center on Sept. 17 with the exhibit “Visions,”
featurting the works of Trula K. Blize and Eric W. Zippe at the free artist
reception from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Backed by over 30 years of fine art and
photography experience, the Torchiere Arts artists have a passion for
photography that is easily translated through their work to their viewer. The
show will be open to the public through Sept. 26. Darlington Arts Center is

• As part of its 40th anniversary celebration, the Brandywine
River Museum
will offer docent-led tours of its renowned collection of
regional and American art on Wednesday mornings from Oct. 5 to 26. The
series will conclude with a tour by Curator of Collections Virginia O'Hara, who
will discuss the collection's development during the Museum's 40-year history.
Each week will focus on a different area of the museum's collections.
Dates and topics include:
October 5 - Landscapes, Portraits and Still Lifes,
October 12 - Howard Pyle and American Illustration,
October 19 - Treasure Island and N.C. Wyeth,
October 26 - Wyeth Art, and
November 2 - Curator's Tour.
These tours are included with museum admission and free for members. Interested
participants are asked to register with the education office at education@brandywine.org
