• State police are investigating the theft of $2,000 in cash from a home on Millrace Place in Concord Township. A report said the incident happened on Aug. 8. The money was taken from a secure bedroom.


• Police arrested Stephen Terrey, of Kennett Square, on drug charges following a two-vehicle crash in Chadds Ford Township, a police report said. According to the report, Terrey showed signs of impairment and three bags of heroin were found in his car during a search after the accident. The accident happened on Brandywine Drive shortly before 11 a.m. on Aug. 5.


• Police are investigating a case of burglary and car theft in Concord Township. A report said someone entered a home on Glen Mills Road sometime between Aug. 3 and Aug.4 through a first floor window after removing an air conditioner. After taking several personal items, the suspect then took a red Ford Mustang that was in the driveway using keys that were found in the house, police said.


• State police arrested a 17-year-old on fraud and theft charges when the youth attempted to cash a check from his grandfather’s account at WSFS on Aug. 2. Police said the investigation revealed the suspect had cashed $1,500 worth of checks on several occasions during the previous few weeks.


• Two people had their cars broken into while parked at the California Tortilla parking lot at the Concordville Town Centre between 9 and 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 3. Police said nothing was stolen from either vehicle.


• A 31-year-old woman from Wilmington was taken into custody for allegedly stealing a purse from another woman in the Goodwill Store on Route 202 in Concord Township. Police said the suspect took the purse from the victim’s shopping cart. The unidentified suspect then fled the store and tried to use the victim’s credit cards in three different stores, but the purchases were denied, the state police report said. Westtown/East Goshen police stopped the suspect’s car on Route 202. She was positively identified at the scene and taken into custody.


• Someone smashed the driver’s side rear window of a car parked in the area of Old Baltimore Pike and Route 1 in Pennsbury Township and stole a black Tumi briefcase, police said. The incident happened between 4:45 and 9:20 p.m. on Aug. 3.

    History is repeating itself. During the Depression, crime was at a record high. Gangster ruled the cities. Desperate people do desperate things.
