John J. Jasienski Sr. of Avondale

John J. Jasienski Sr., 88, of
Avondale, died February 26 at Jenner’s Pond Nursing Facility.

Born in Delaware County, he
served with the Army’s 99th Infantry Division through the entire
European Theatre Campaign. During the Battle of the Bulge he was wounded but
continued to fight, earning the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for heroic and
meritorious service.

He settled in Avondale in 1950
with his brothers and ran a successful business for 47 years. Married to Sophie
Kosierowski, they had four children. John was preceded in death by brothers
Henry Jankowski and Joseph Jasienski as well as his son, John, Jr.

He is survived by his daughters,
Valerie Carnevale (Thomas) of Clearfield, Rose (Kelly) Ziadie of North Potomac,
Md. and his son Anthony of Avondale. He is also survived by eight
grandchildren, Amy and Anne Carnevale as well as Rachael, Monica, Jonah, Ruth,
Hannah and Naomi Jasienski. Also surviving is his brother Alex.

John enjoyed gardening, hunting
and reading and was a member of the 99th Infantry Assn and Pennsylvania
Farmers Association.

His viewing will be held Thursday
evening, March 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home, 250
West State Street, Kennett Square, and again on Friday, March 4, from 10
to 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Church, 8910 Gap Newport Pike
( Rt. 41), Avondale. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. Burial
will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Route 82, Kennett Square.
