Thomas O. “Tuck” Taylor

Tuck, aged 89, died peacefully
on Jan. 27 after a long illness.

He was born in Washington,
DC. While attending Woodrow Wilson High School, he met his future wife, Patricia
Lum. They attended Swarthmore College, from which he graduated in 1943 with a
degree in Economics. He and Pat were married in April 1944, just before he went
to the Pacific Theater. Capt. Taylor returned home in 1945 to his wife and the
son he hadn’t met and joined E. I. DuPont in sales. He was ultimately DuPont’s
top salesman of packaging films.

Although a marine in time of
his country’s need, he was a faithful Quaker and member of the Springfield Friends
Meeting in Delaware County.

While raising their 5 children,
Tom, Paul, Carrie, Sam, and Mary Eliza, in Drexel Hill and Lima, PA, he was
active in the Boy Scouts of America serving as a Scoutmaster and as a Valley
Forge Council committee member. He was awarded Scouting’s Silver Beaver Award
for his creativity and leadership.

Tuck was a lifelong stamp
collector and consistently won “Best in Show” for his unique collection of
early Washington DC postal covers (pre-stamps) and history of that era.

He created and organized a
major periodic family reunion (“The Struggle”) that reconnected new generations
of Taylors and Nuttalls to their heritage in West Virginia coal lands.

The bond between Tuck and Pat
was truly unique as they were friends, lovers, confidants, and for a few years,
business partners in the Taylor Made Company they formed after his retirement
from DuPont. He will be remembered by all he has touched.

A man of faith, integrity and
commitment, he succeeded his wife Pat of 66 years by one week after seeing her
safely to their maker. Tuck is survived by his children, their spouses, 10
grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and his best friend for over 80 years,
his brother Jackson (Jerry) Taylor.

A memorial service for Tuck and
Pat will be held in the William Penn Room at Crosslands in Kennett Square, on
Saturday, Feb. 12 at 11 a.m.
