Pennsbury honors Hauser

Pennsbury Township honored the late Susan Hauser during the
Nov. 17 supervisors meeting by naming her the first recipient of a new Distinguished
Service Award. Hauser died in 2009.

Supervisors’ Chairman Wendell Fenton showed a plaque with
her name that will be displayed in the township building.

Bill Hauser, Susan’s husband, was on hand for the
presentation. He said his wife lived up to her school motto of administering to
others instead of being administered to.

Bob MacDonald, of her Historic Commission, commended Susan
Hauser’s volunteer efforts.

“It’s appropriate that Susan is honored first. She was the
lifeblood of the [historic] commission, making it a dynamic organization,”
MacDonald said.

Hauser spearheaded the survey of historic resources, and
MacDonald said that would never have happened without her.

Township Manager Kathy Howley said Hauser worked on the
project even from her hospital bed.

Hauser was also a longtime active volunteer with the
Chadds Ford Historical Society.

Other business

• The township has a preliminary budget that is balanced
with an estimated $1,185,782 in revenue and expense for 2011.

Howley said the budget is posted on the township Web site
and that supervisors will vote on the spending plan during their Dec. 15
meeting.

• Howley also announced the township has received an $8,000
recycling grant from the state. The township maintains recycling bins at the
township building parking lot that are available for use by all township
residents.

• Township engineer Matt Houtman said the township is
working to fix a culvert prom on Brinton’s Bridge Road. He said the massive
rainstorm on Sept. 30 began eroding the area below the culvert and the Nov. 4
rain added to the problem resulting in an eight-foot hole. He said the road
would likely be closed for another four weeks.

The township still needs to get an estimate for the job, but
supervisors voted to spend up to $50,000 without additional supervisory review.

• Supervisors voted to appoint Thomas Lowry, of Municipal
Support Services, to be the assistant code enforcement and zoning officer. He
will fill in for Rusty Drumheller as needed for a fee of $82.40 per hour.
