Steve Barrar Has Earned Our Vote For Re-Election!

I am writing to show my support for Steve Barrar and to urge residents of the 160th Legislative District to go to the polls on November 2, 2010 and cast a vote to re-elect him as our State Representative. Steve has been a tireless worker for the people of this district. He has listened to us and represented our views in Harrisburg.

In a previous article, Representative Barrar’s opponent claimed that the Barrar office was unresponsive. Nothing could be further from the truth. In this same article, the opponent opined that duplication exists within the government, specifically pointing to PennDot as an example. While I know full well that there is much within any government activity that is not efficient, his reference to PennDOT struck a chord for me.

My family lives in a home with a driveway on Baltimore Pike. When we bought the home, the driveway was unsafe, in that leaving the property required one to point northbound into the southbound traffic and required use of both southbound lanes to get out onto the high volume road. We learned that we could not modify our driveway to make it safer without approvals from PennDOT. Over the course of several months, we sent several letters and made several phone calls to various PennDOT officials without any response. After months of no response and concern for our safety, we contacted Representative Barrar. Despite being what one might consider a mundane/minor issue of a homeowner’s driveway, Steve came out to see the complexities of our problem. The following Saturday, he returned with some of his friends (3 PennDOT engineers) who looked at our driveway, listened to our concerns, measured distances and lines of sight and helped us create a plan (and the proper process to submit it) that now enables us (and our visitors) to enter the highway safely. Steve Barrar did not duplicate efforts with PennDOT, but did make them accountable and responsive. We were very thankful for Steve’s initiative in getting this addressed.

And, as I Chadds Ford resident, I know that he has been responsive to the needs of our community as well. Just a few of his recent accomplishments on behalf of Chadds Ford residents include:

· Computers for CF Elementary School

· Assistance for the Chadds Ford Sewer Authority

· Standing up to help support the efforts to save the Brandywine Battlefield Park

· Organizing a Health and Safety Fair for township residents

· Helping to bring tourism and business to our community in his role as House Chair on Tourism

Steve is a genuine, sincere individual who works for everyone in the 160th District. He has earned our vote for re-election on November 2nd.
