Irene
G. Plankinton (née Gibson), formerly of Kennett Square, died Saturday, Oct. 31,
2009. She was 91 years old.

Born
in Havre de Grace, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Matilda
Mae Gibson.

She
was the wife of the late Leon Jacob Plankinton, with whom she shared 32 years
of marriage.

Mrs.
Plankinton lived in Kennett Square for most of her life and worked as a
secretary at Sheldon’s Department store.

Mrs.
Plankinton is survived by three children, Leon Richard Plankinton (Barbara) of
Malvern; Betsy Plankinton Tompkins (Howard) of Lamar; and Sara Rebecca McCarthy
(James) of Huntingdon.

She
was the beloved grandmother to Sandra Plankinton Bassick (John) and Karen
Plankinton; Howard George “H.G.”, Kathryn and Jacob Tompkins; and Erin, Cara,
Bridget, Emily, James, Matthew, Ryan, Colleen and Catherine McCarthy.

She
was also great-grandmother to Emmett George Tompkins; Ashley, Michaela and
Emily Bassick; and Jacob Henry Plankinton.

She
is predeceased by a sister, Margaret Gibson Geesey, and a grandson, Andrew
Aloysius McCarthy.

Mrs.
Plankinton most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, shopping with her
daughters, knitting, cross-stitch, and crossword puzzles. She was a member of
St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Unionville.

Family
and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Thursday, Nov. 5 at
St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 109 E. Doe Run Road, Unionville at 11 a.m.

Visitation
will be from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4 and from 9:30-10:30 a.m on Thursday,
Nov. 5 at Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home, 250 West State Street, Kennett
Square.
Interment will be in Longwood Cemetery in Longwood.
