Susan Wax Hauser of Pennsbury Township

Susan Wax Hauser, 72, of Pennsbury Township, died Tuesday,
Sept. 8, at Neighborhood Hospice Inpatient Unit, West Chester, following a
four-year battle with gastrointestinal cancer.

Born in Berea, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late
Ervin and Margaret (Fraizer) Wax. She was the loving and devoted wife of
William C. Hauser.

Mrs. Hauser obtained a bachelor's degree in English from
Wellesley College in 1959.?Her business career started in New York City at
McCall's Patterns and then Mademoiselle Magazine writing promotional copy. She
moved to San Diego, Calif. and was the advertising manager for J. Jessop and
Sons, a multi-store jewelry firm.

Marriage and her husband's job brought her to Richmond,
Va., where she continued to work in advertising for a variety of clients. She
then spent almost six years with her young family in Geneva, Switzerland, as a
result of her husband's transfer.

Upon her return to the United States, she went to work for
the Delaware County Planning Department, where she last held the position of
manager, GIS/Information Services, until she retired in 2007.

In addition to her professional career, Mrs. Hauser was
very involved in her community. She did the publicity for the Chadds Ford
Historical Society for 17 years and served as a board member. She had a large
part in its major events such as Chadds Ford Days, the Great Pumpkin Carve and
the Candlelight Christmas Tour.?For all of her work with the society, Mrs.
Hauser was honored in April 2009 with a lifetime honorary membership.

She had also served as a professional adviser and staff
for the Delaware County Heritage Commission, edited and designed the book
"Brandywine Battlefield: The National Historic Landmark Revisited"
(1992), and served on the Brandywine Battlefield Task Force.

Her last volunteer position was as the chairwoman of the
Pennsbury Township Historical Commission, where she provided the leadership for
the soon-to-be published "Pennsbury Township Historic Survey."

Mrs. Hauser was a true gourmand and loved to cook for her
family and friends. Her creative talents also included becoming a student of
Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging.

Survivors include her husband, William; daughter Tracy
Hauser Scarrow and her husband, James, of Washington, D.C.; and two
grandchildren, Emily and Jackson Scarrow.

Mrs. Hauser's son, Jeffrey, died in 1986.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept.
25, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 10 W. Pleasant Grove Road, West
Chester. The Rev. Don Lincoln will officiate. Internment will be private and
held at a later date.
