Police log for July 9

Pennsylvania State Police from Troop K, Media are investigating a series of thefts from seven unlocked vehicles parked in the Ridings development in Chadds Ford Township. A state police report said the vehicles were entered sometime between 1 and 6 a.m. on July 8. Items reported stolen from the cars include a flat screen TV valued at $400, a $40 TV antenna, a Verizon LG cell phone valued at $200, a check card, a CD navigation disc and $125 in cash.

• A state police report said George Zechman, 62, of Beaver Valley Road in Chadds Ford faces arrest for depositing two bad checks totaling $6,500 at a bank, then withdrawing $4,772 before the bank realized the checks were bad. The report said Zechman was given ample opportunity to make restitution, but that he refused. He will be charged with theft, the report said. The incident reportedly happened April 28.

• Pennsylvania State Police from Troop K, Media arrested a 33-year-old from West Grove on DUI charges. Police reported charging the woman at Route 1 near Painters Crossing at 5:35 p.m. Thursday, July 2. No other information was released.

• An unidentified 33-year-old Garnet Valley woman was charged with DUI after being stopped for traffic violations at the intersection of Smithbridge and Concord roads in Concord Township on July 4. A police report said the stop was made at 1:47 a.m.

• Someone shot at a car with a pellet/BB gun causing an estimated $400 in damage to the passenger side rear door. State police said the incident happened about 10 a.m. on July 4, in Concord Township on Smthbridge Road just east of Doe Run. People with information are asked to call the police at Troop K, Media at 484-840-1000.

• Police are investigating a hit and run accident on Route 202 in Chadds Ford. Police said the incident happened shortly after 7 a.m. in the southbound lanes approaching Route 1 on July 6 when one vehicle rear-ended another at a traffic light. The offending driver fled the scene, the report said. No injuries were reported.

• State police from Troop J, Avondale reported a fatal crash on the northbound off ramp of Route 1 at Newark Road in New garden Township. According to a repot, Justin Scott Fields, 23, of Conowingo, Md. lost control of his 2007 blue Suzuki Sport motorcycle, striking a guardrail at 12:35 p.m. on July 4.He was airlifted to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:25 p.m. The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Douglas Roemer at 610-268-2022.

• State police from the Avondale barracks are investigating a series of thefts in London Grove Township. In one incident a red Troy Built self-propelled lawn mower was stolen from a driveway on Chatham Alley sometime between July 1 and July 4.

In another incident a camouflaged ATV was stolen from under the deck of a home on Coatesville Road. That happened, police said, sometime between June 28 and July 5.
