Martin Briggs, 84, of West Grove, passed away at his residence on Saturday, May 16. He was the husband of Esther Hopson Briggs, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
Born in North Carolina, he was the son of the late Jack and Martha Jane Briggs.
He was a Carpenter, working for Paul Wollaston, Avondale, for 15 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Nottingham.
Mr. Briggs enjoyed fishing, working around the house, the outdoors and being with his family which includes his church family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Larry Briggs and his wife Mary Lou of Landenberg, three brothers, Floyd Briggs of Denver, Pa, Rabe Briggs of Quarryville, and James Briggs of New London, one sister, Mildred Briggs of Chatham, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Edna Hughes and one brother, John Briggs.

His funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the New London United Methodist Cemetery, State Road, New London.
