Lost Lenape Park: Remembering the Once Bustling Recreation Destination

April 11 at 7pm

by Don McKay

The area currently known as Lenape developed out of a rural agricultural community serviced by a colonial mill that was witness to the British invasion of September 11, 1777. The introduction of a steam railroad in the 1870's opened up new business opportunities for the local residents as well as new avenue to bring visitors to the picturesque region. With the introduction of an early picnic park, the tourism industry was born and enhanced over the years with the recreation and transportation technologies of the times. Take a trip back to simpler times and recall the grandeur of the stop along the Brandywine that we call Lenape.
