The alt-rock musical "Spring Awakening" opens at City Theater Co. of Wilmington on Dec. 13.

City Theater Co. of Wilmington is opening its mainstage season on Dec. 13 with the alt-rock musical Spring Awakening. The musical has a pop-rock score by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It brings all the angst, romance, tragedy, and poetry of adolescence to our audiences. The musical is based on a play by Frank Wedekind that was suppressed from being performed until 1906 for its condemnation of sexual and social taboos disguised as righteous correctness. A group of teenagers in a Victorian-era town wrestle with their “awakening” on all things related to love and sex under the eyes of their watchful and neglectful parents and teachers. Chadd Ford Township is changing the dates for meetings in 2025. The Board of Supervisors will be meeting on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, the Planning Commission will meet on the first Wednesday, and the Open Space Committee will meet on the third Wednesday.
