Media Barracks

Police are investigating a forgery case in Concord Township. The victim, a 79-year-old woman from Glen Mills, was scammed out of $500 at an ATM on Aug. 11 after her credit card was stolen, police said.

Avondale Barracks

Troopers from the Avondale barracks are investigating a case of counterfeiting. A report said someone made a purchase at the CVS on Route 1 in East Marlborough Township on July 30 using a bogus $100 bill.

Police said Alexander Balan, 87, of New Castle, was cited following a one-car crash on W. Street Road in Pennsbury Township on Aug. 9. Police said Balan was driving east but failed to negotiate a left-hand curve, and the car, a 2022 Toyota Camry, ran into a ditch. No injuries were reported. The accident happened at 6 p.m.

Michael E. Kikut, 29, of Brookhaven, was cited for driving too fast for conditions in Pennsbury Township on Aug. 9, a police report said. According to that report, Kikut was traveling northbound on Route 1 shortly after 3 p.m., but was driving too fast for conditions. Near Joshua Way, the 2011 Honda Pilot he was driving hydroplaned, ran off the road, and struck a tree. Police reported no injuries.

Police said Jonas L. King, 19, of Holtwood, was cited after his vehicle hydroplaned on the Kennett Oxford Bypass at 4:41 a.m. on Aug. 8. According to the report, King was traveling north and was just north of the Route 82 exit in Kennett Township, when the vehicle, a 2015 Ford Focus, started to hydroplane on the wet roads. The car then left the north side of the roadway and struck a wire barrier, spinning 360 degrees until it stopped at its final rest in the right lane of travel. No injuries were reported.

State police arrested a 53-year-old West Grove man for drug possession following a traffic stop on Route 1 in East Marlborough Township just before 11 p.m. on Aug. 7. Police said they conducted the traffic stop because the driver (not named in the report) was speeding. After the stop, the operator displayed indicators of alcohol impairment and was placed under arrest for DUl. During a search incidental to the arrest, suspected methamphetamine was discovered.

Police said Kevin J. Popoca Martines, 18, of Avondale, was cited for his involvement in a two-car crash on Unionville Road in East Marlborough Township on Aug. 7 shortly before 9 p.m. According to the report, Popoca Martines was traveling south on Unionville Road while another vehicle was heading north on the same road when he failed to drive within a single lane and crashed into the 9 o'clock position of the other car before losing control of their vehicle. A passenger in the second car reported a minor hand injury on but refused transport.

Steven L. Shelton, 56, of Kennett Square, was cited after a two-car crash on Unionville Road on Aug. 7, police said. The incident happened at 8:25 p.m. According to the report, Shelton was backing out of a driveway to make a left turn onto Unionville Road but failed to clear all lanes of travel and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

A 35-year-old man from Aston was arrested for shoplifting at the Walmart in East Marlborough Township on Aug. 7. The suspect, not named in the report, allegedly stole approximately $70 worth of miscellaneous items and fled in a white sedan displaying a Pennsylvania registration plate.

Police are investigating the theft of approximately $700 worth of merchandise from the Walmart in East Marlborough Township on Aug. 7 at 7:07 p.m.

Kennett Square Police Department

Police said Jorge Fuentes-Alanis, 42, of Kennett Square, was arrested and charged with violations of the controlled substance, drug, device, and cosmetic act (Act 64) after he was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and related paraphernalia following a report of a suspicious condition. The incident occurred on Sunday, Aug. 18, at approximately 10:01 a.m. in the 500 block of S. Union Street. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Central Booking at Chester County Prison. Charges were filed in District Court 15-3-04.
